Child Porn Victim to Testify Before Congress About Webcam Dangers

Children who think having a webcam will be a cool way to let their friends know what they're doing aren't aware of the danger waiting for them when they go live on the Internet. In many cases local law enforcement may be just as ignorant.

The danger to girls on MySpace has been widely publicized thanks to multiple sting operations run by police and by reporters but webcams are equally dangerous predator magnets. And the danger can be immediate even when the predator remains far away.

A predator may make what seems like a harmless request to the child. But to the predator, the child is a sex toy.

From an ABC news story:

Justin Berry was a 13-year-old honor student and class president when he started down a dark and dangerous path.

Don't be fooled into thinking children like Justin weren't true victims because their stories don't fit our stereotype of sexual exploitation and abuse.

I heard part of his testimony yesterday...heartbreaking. Predators will continue to exploit whatever tools are available to them.

Yes, it is heartbreaking. I just hope that heartbreak isn't compounded by being making him and others like him into the punchlines of their jokes.

I heard part of the testimony also,
Donna, it is hard to believe no one has been charged yet! Not even his father! I hope the predators/sex offenders know they will be caught more of us are speaking out!
Take care, and one word to sex offenders the movement to catch you all is on!

This type of stuff (off-line) has been shameful for a long time, but now more people are putting the shame where it belongs. On the predators and manipulators.
