Duke Rape Case: 2 lacrosse players arrested

Two Duke University lacrosse players were arrested. According to news reports, one was charged with first degree forcible rape, first degree sexual assault and kidnapping while the other was charged with rape, sexual offense and kidnapping.

Last November 1 of 2 lacrosse players arrested today was charged, along with 2 teammates from his high school lacrosse team, with physical assault. That incident included the use of derogatory names. The assault charge will be dismissed after the player completes 25 hours of community service. After that incident, the university's executive vice president reviewed disciplinary records of university athletes and considered the number given to lacrosse players to be a "red flag."

The district attorney said he hopes to charge a third person soon. "It is important that we not only bring the assailants to justice, but also that we lift the cloud of suspicion from those team members who were not involved in the assault."

The alleged victim told police she was blocked in a bathroom, held, hit, kicked and strangled while she was sexually assaulted by 3 men. She estimated the assault lasted about 30 minutes.

The defense team keeps pointing to the 'proof' of timestamped photographs, but they have not explained why it took them so long to reveal the photographs existence. Neither have they mentioned whether the photographs were taken on a digital camera. Men capable of rape or covering up for rapists are capable of photo shopping and selectively deleting what might have been very incriminating photographs.

Defense lawyers have stated that no rape and no sex occurred at the party and have mounted an aggressive and sometimes contradictory campaign to discredit the alleged victim. Robert Bennett, a former lawyer for President Bill Clinton, has been hired as a spokesman by a group of Duke supporters who want to improve the image of the university, the players and the players' supporters. Basically, they need more positive spin than they are getting from the defense attorneys.

Of course there are quotes from people who were assured by team members that no rape occurred. Like any team member would answer, "Sure did rape that n____. Was fun too giving her what she deserved, until that 'ho ruined everything. But no worries, the good citizens will think she's to blame. Me and my boys was just enticed by her exotic beauty. Everything will be fine, those on my side (too many to name, man) got half the country calling her another Tawana Brawley. We'll be heroes when this is over."

Both men arrested today are expected to appear in court on May 15.
