Michelle Malkin: gang violence across race boundaries

Michelle Malkin discusses the case of John Hehman, a white NYU student chased into the path of an oncoming car in Harlem by a gang of African-American youths. There seems to be an unspoken comparison to the Duke rape case.

However, there are some key differences betwen this case and the Duke rape case and the Howard Beach murder she refers to specifically in her article.

1) The motive in this case seems to be limited to robbery even though one of the assailants reportedly screamed, "Get whitey."

2) The accused in this case were considered part of a gang and not upstanding citizens or star athletes.

3) No one is supporting the alleged criminals just because the victim did something (give away pocket change) that caught the attention of the men who chased him into traffic.

4) The NYPD hate-crimes unit is investigating this crime so there isn't any perception that those in authority over the alleged assailants are ignoring a serious problem because of the race of the victim.
