Juror #5 Anatomy of a child sexual assault case

Pugilist
I was juror #5.
At this point we did not know the exact case. We had been told it was a sexual assault case dealing with someone under 13 years of age. We were told that much as part of our general questioning, but nothing specific, even after we were empanelled. The exact charges would be read on the following morning.

This case demonstrates many of the problems that can come up in child sex abuse cases and shows why jurors can come to a not-guilty verdict even when there is credible evidence that a child was sexually abused.
