FRESNO, California (AP) -- The rape of an 11-year-old girl may have involved as many as 10 men, most of whom are football players at local community colleges, police said. Police arrested two men in connection with the rape Saturday night, and officials said they identified eight others as persons of interest in the case. Most or all are students at either Fresno City College or Reedley College, police said. The victim, a runaway from a group home, went to a Fresno apartment complex Saturday night to visit an acquaintance, said police spokesman Jeff Cardinale. While she was inside one of the units, she allegedly was sexually assaulted multiple times by several men, he said. (Watch a neighbor describe the suspects -- 1:41) The girl then fled the apartment and sought help from a couple on the street who called police, Cardinale said. The victim, who suffered no serious physical injuries, was taken to University Medical Center for an examination.I wonder how long it will take for those who insist that good American boys don't commit rape (and only take what's offered to them) to turn this 11-year-old into some sort of vindictive temptress?
For this to happen and for so-called good people to defend the actions as consensual, there must be a culture that sees girls and women as so far below fully human that they become a consumable or an object to be vandalized.
It didn't take long at all.
One or two players said they might have seen the girl come out of the bedroom or bathroom at some point, Idiart [a criminal defense attorney ] said. The victim appeared to be older than 11, the players told Idiart. "They said she was tall and had some development…. They all said she 'looked like she was 18 or 19 to me.' Whether that's true or not, I don't know. When I think of 11, I think of a girl jumping rope and playing jacks. But apparently she was more mature than that."So if a girl has any visible breasts, she's fair game because boys and men can say "she might be 18"? I find it ironic that some of the players might have seen her come out of a bedroom, but they are certain she was old enough to give consent.
That's CYA speak for "because she was a runaway, we thought she'd never go to the authorities."
