Rapist Preys on Men in Houston Area

A rapist who preys on young men has struck five times in the Houston area since mid-September, and police said Monday there may be even more victims, but they are too ashamed to come forward.

The rapist typically stalks, robs and sexually assaults his victims at gunpoint, apparently choosing them at random and attacking them near or inside their homes, police said. The most recent attack was Nov. 30.

[...] Investigators believe that rape is the motive, even though some victims were robbed. DNA testing is under way in an effort to identify the attacker. In some cases, the attacker approached his victim outside their home. Other times, he broke into the home.

I can't imagine the horror these victims faced. I hope all of them who reported to authorities or to others were believed and treated with the respect they deserve.

I feel for the victims, and hope they are well-supported. And that their attacker is quickly caught. And that the trial, whenever it comes, does not become an opportunity to attack them again.

A male heterosexual friend was raped by a burglar in his home in October 2006. The rapist beat to unconciousness a strong, healthy and normally very capable of physical self defense man then raped him.

The rapist left my friend on his living-room floor and when he came to and called the police, the police took pictures, asked questions and then laughed at him!

Since then the friend has relapsed after over 10 years sobriety and I have been staying with him on weekends to offer support and give him some security while he gets some sleetp.

Last night during the storm in Houston, the wind pushed open the front door of the house around 2:30 am. We were in the front room of his house talking because he has a hard time sleeping.

As the wind blew open the window we both jumped up and he immediately had a look of ultimate fear on his face as he stormed towards the door and screamed "YOU #%*@@".

This friend was also raped as a child and then again at age 19 and has been in therapy over the phone. I am concerned that he may need to be in a group situation or something. Basically feel helpless and alone myself because he has not trusted family or many friends with this information.

Where can I find more information on help for the vicitm and for myself?

Where can I get more information on the Rapist who Preys on men in the Houston area????

A dear friend was beat and raped by a an apparent burglar/s in October 06 and he is having trouble remembering many details. The police were called but he is obviously dealing with the horrifying aftermath. Having been raped as and young boy then again in his teens, this beautiful intelligent and strong man has been retraumatized to the point of becoming suicidal and paranoid.

He has a great therapist whom he speaks with long-distance and one here in town but as his friend if there is anything else I can do to give him the support, space and love to let him know he is not alone in this nightmare. At the same time I am not equipped to handle this and could use any guidance from someone out there who is familiar with the trauma of rape PTSD.

ALSO...I want to make sure I that the proper report has been filled out to add this crime to the list of rapes happening in the HOUSTON area in case any information can help catch the rapist.

I am not sure my friend will be willing to make his case publicly know but I'm pretty sure he would provide whatever details he is capable of remembering.

I'm horrified that your friend was laughed at by the police. There's nothing funny about being raped.

Here is one website with a list of resources for male survivors

If he's reluctant to call available resources you might consider contacting the resources yourself, including any local victim services, to see how trained they are in dealing with male victims.

Most resources available to rape victims are also available to help friends and family of rape victims.

Here's a link to the Houston Tx victim services unit.

There are several phone numbers listed on the page. There's also a place where you can enter a zip code which may tell you if there is a closer victim services to where your friend lives.
