Attorney:Memphis Surgeon Accused Of Attempted Rape Is Depressed

A Memphis surgeon who works at the Midtown Surgery Center has been charged with 9 crimes including sexual battery and attempted rape.

The attorney for a Mid-South surgeon whose nurses accused him of sexual battery and attempted rape says his client is depressed and getting counseling. Tuesday, a judge set a May trial date for Dr. Brett Sokoloff.

This man's attorney unfortunately makes him look guilty of the actions he's been accused of.

The defense seems to rely on reaching those who accept excuses for those who commit sex crimes. Since the alleged crimes occurred over a 2 year period against 3 nurses, this means that the man wasn't liable for a pattern of behavior when he was capable of doing his job -- a very precise and demanding job.

If depression was a factor, then it seems to be a motive for trying to get the unwilling to submit to him.

Hello, Marcella, Mr. Anonymous here, actually to support you with this one. I am a retired surgeon who has been treated for depression for a number of years(make whatever you want of that - you have to deal with a lot of things as a surgeon, like telling people they have terminal diseases). I was never even tempted to go after my nurses the way that guy did. That excuse is a crock.

We know Bret Sokoloff and his family personally and we were shocked to read about the crimes he's accused of. However, to have 3 different nurses, plus a massage therapist claim to have been approached by him -- makes a pretty strong case against him.

I spoke to one of his medical school classmates and he said that Bret was always hitting inappropriately on nurses and other staff during his rotations -- his classmate said he's not surprised at all about the accusations!
