Hospital Cutbacks Leave Pregnant Women And Rape Victims In Crisis

From NY Daily News:

As if health services were not bad enough already, Long Island College Hospital is about to join a growing list of Brooklyn medical facilities that have slammed the door in the faces of hundreds of pregnant women and rape victims. [...]

The 150-year-old facility, besieged by financial problems, is about to shut down its maternity ward and its rape intervention program. Losing those services will be devastating for a community where health care facilities are already painfully scarce. [...]

"This would be the fourth maternity ward that closes in Brooklyn the last five years," said de Blasio, who represents the area where LICH is located. "Obviously something is profoundly wrong here."

I don't have much to say about this other than this is as concerning as the decisions by many hospitals not to have emergency rooms or to shut down their emergency rooms.

That is beyond ridiculous! It's really no wonder people aren't getting the help that they may desperately need; financial cutbacks and facilities that are supposed to be there to help people simply have turned their backs and keep their eyes closed. It's pathetic, really.
