MN Man Conference Update Day 1

I'm near Brainerd, MN attending the conference sponsored by the Minnesota Men's Action Network which is focused on "how to increase the number and strengthen the investment of men involved in the primary prevention of sexual and domestic violence."

The 1st day of conference began with an intro by Frank Jewell & Chuck Derry about the work of MN men's action network. They need and want more men in Minnesota to get involved and be a part of the solution.

Opening: Mark Kinde, Injury & Violence Prevention, MN Dept Health: need shared commitment, habit change, culture change.

opening: Patty Wetterling, Prog Dir SV Prevention, MN Dept Hlth: need to have vision of what we want then can take the needed steps.

Chuck Derry: taught early to devalue women by being told, "Don't __ like a girl." created sense that boys and men superior.

Robert Jensen: How porn pop culture shape toxic masculinity emphasized power over model, porn eroticizes sexual/racial hierarchy.
